My childhood in the 1950's was surrounded with Sisters of Notre Dame. They taught in every grade of our elementary school, St. Helen, South Gate, CA. They all had individual personalities, some being very enthusiastic, while others were quiet and soft-spoken, but all were great teachers. All of them taught me to love the good God and trust in His provident care.
As I was growing up, I used to play school with the neighborhood children. I was always the teacher, which for me meant being a Sister. By the time I reached 8th grade, I had made up my mind that I wanted to be a Sister. I heard about the Sisters of Notre Dame Aspirant School, which was a boarding High School for girls who were interested in becoming Sisters located at Notre Dame Academy in West Los Angeles. My next three years of High School were happily spent as an aspirant of Notre Dame. For my senior year I decided to stay home with my family, but the desire to be a Sister remained in my heart. So after graduation I entered the convent and have spent the nexty 42 years happily serving the good God as a teacher, a principal, a nurse's aide and as assistant secretary. These have been very happy years and I thank God daily for calling me to Notre Dame.
