Get to know Sr. Val:

I am a native of Southern California who was raised in the San Diego area and graduated from Point Loma High School.  Prior to entering the Sisters of Notre Dame in 2003, my career path was office management. I worked in the profit and non-profit sectors in Southern California, Seattle, Washington, and in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia). Aside from office management positions, I also taught ballet part-time. It has brought me great joy to be able to incorporate my ballet background with liturgy through liturgical movement.

Since entering the Sisters of Notre Dame community, I have had a variety of service experiences working with the homeless population in Los Angeles and Long Beach, assisting with a literacy program in Watts, and volunteering at a shelter for women who are human trafficking survivors. I have also taught religious education and am involved with Young Adult ministry.

My first full-time ministry position after I made my First Profession of vows in 2007 was working as the Office Manager at Notre Dame High School. For the last year and a half I have been the Vocation Director for our community and I am currently completing my Bachelors in Religious Studies at Mount St. Mary’s weekend college.

Coming from the business world to religious life has been a dramatic life change for me, but I am very grateful to God for my vocation call. As Sisters of Notre Dame we embrace God’s goodness and provident and strive to bring hope within a diverse society. I love my community and I love being a Sister of Notre Dame!
