On Sunday, June 22 the Sisters of Notre Dame in California welcomed five new Associates. Teri Bond, Marti Burens, Nancy Coonis, Jacqueline Marquez and Kevin McNamara made their covenants during a morning liturgy which began with these words:
In God’s providence,
we gather this morning
this twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time and
the 39th anniversary of the canonization of St. Julie Billiart.
The Spirit calls us to worship
following the example of this great woman
who came to proclaim God’s goodness. In God’s providence,
today is also a day of commitment
and renewal for our community.
Like St. Julie,
we have been called from birth to a unique vocation.
We have been called by baptism
and by our Notre Dame charism
to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and to proclaim his mission. In keeping with Julie’s maxim that
“we must have hearts as wide as the universe”
we unite ourselves
with the Sisters and Associates of Notre Dame
around the world and with all who believe in Jesus.
May all of us, present in this chapel or present only in spirit,
be filled with abundant graces:
to a deeper relationship with God,
to radical discipleship
and to solidarity with the poor and marginalized. In Jesus name, we pray.
The Mass was followed by a luncheon at Notre Dame Center. To learn more about the Associates Program, click here and contact Sr. Lisa Megaffin at 805-402-8623.
