Sr. Teresita Reflects on the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

Working with the RCIA is a wonderful privilege. One follows the addage to pray more to God for the people than talk to the people about God. It is an awesome experience to journey with people, watching and listening to them tell about their journey. The people come not sure about what they are doing or what they really want, but they know they want some religion in their lives. As time progresses one can actually experience a conversion taking place with the candidates. As leaders we know that the grace of God is truly working in these people who are open and generous in responding to the Lord's call.
The RCIA process consists of rites to support and help the catechumens on their journey. At the Easter Vigil the excitement is genuine as each catechumen and candidate pledges to live their Christian life according to the beliefs of the Catholic Church. Journeying with our 18 candidates, I have learned not to trust in myself but to place each of them in God's hands praying for them each day, and letting God work in their lives.
At the Easter vigil we watched as 9 people entered the Baptismal waters and came forth with the new excitment that they were reborn into a life with Christ. All 18 of the candidates were confirmed and received the Lord in the Eucharist...
Our parish celebration continued with a reception for the candidates, families and parish community. We will help our neophytes now continue their journey in our St Philip's community.
