Sister Mary Patrick passed into eternity peacefully June 8, 2007, after spending two years in the health care center. Sister Mary Patrick was in her 93rd year of life and her 73rd year of Religious Profession.
After her profession in Cleveland, Ohio, Sister taught for 17 years in Cleveland, Massillon, Ashtabula, Canton and Elyria, Ohio. Sister also taught at the Campus School in Washington D.C. as well as in Arlington, Virginia.
In 1953, Sister Mary Patrick came to California where she began her ministry in the West at St. Cornelius School in Richmond, California. For the next 11 years Sister was teacher and principal in several of the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Schools. In 1964, Sister Mary Patrick joined the Department of Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles where she served as school supervisor for several regional schools. Sister held this position for nearly 13 years. During this time Sister gave support to principals, teachers and other school staff members.
Through her many workshops, seminars and personal visits, Sister brought encouragement and new ideas to all. She loved and lived education to her fingertips.
Following her retirement from the Department of Catholic Schools, Sister began her new ministry of hospital visiting and training Eucharistic ministers to help her with these many visits. In her spare time Sister Mary Patrick was often coaching an immigrant priest in the English language. She was loved much by these priests struggling to assimilate into the American culture.
During her declining years, Sister spent time in prayer for all the intentions and ministries of the Sisters. She always greeted a visitor with a big smile, so delighted to have visitors. As her hearing grew more impaired Sister admitted that she often did not follow a visitor's conversation but punctuated the visit with many smiles and laughter. We will truly miss Sister Mary Patrick's prayerful fidelity and warm smiles.
May she be blessed with the peace and joy of God's presence forever.
