Every spring, Sr. Mary Lynn Liederbach dons a big floppy hat and asks parishoners at St. Paschal Baylon for donations to support Get on the Bus. Sr. Mary Lynn reports that she's heard many comments about her unusual headwear, including "I like your hat... It's a funny hat... I remember your hat from last year." The hat provides a great attention-getter and conversation piece for people as they generously reach into their wallets to help Get on the Bus. They have given hundreds, and thousands, each year. The program provides bus rides, photographs and lunch for children whose mothers are serving prison terms. The visits take place on or near Mother's Day and provide a rare opportunity for separated family members to see each other. Sr. Mary Lynn serves as parish contact person for detention ministry. She has been raising awareness and funds for Get on the Bus since 2004. |
