California's Outstanding Young Scientist is
La Reina Senior Tierney Burke

The Sisters of Notre Dame congratulate Tierney Burke on being chosen as Outstanding Young Scientist over 6,500 other students. Her work explored the link how vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower protect the body from cancer on a molecular level.

The award from the California Association of Professional Scientists included a prize of $1,000. Tierney has also competed successfully in many science fairs, including a victory at the Ventura County Science Fair in 2004.
