Uganda Sponsorship Program

Sisters of Notre Dame in Uganda help children like this boy eesa acquire At the request of many friends and benefactors, the Sisters of Notre Dame have instituted a sponsorship program for the students enrolled at St. Julie Primary Boarding School in Buseesa, Uganda.

What does it cost to sponsor a St. Julie student?
Sponsors are asked to contribute $50 per month ($600 per year) that will underwrite the cost of education, room and board.

Parents of St. Julie's students currently pay a minimal fee which covers less than 25% of the cost of their education, room and board. This payment gives the parents a sense of ownership in the school and demonstrates the value they place on education.

Sisters of Notre Dame in Uganda provide girls in Africa an opportunity for an education and a futreWhat happens if I cannot continue to support my student?
Although sponsorship is designed to be a lengthy commitment which provides ongoing support, sponsors may discontinue contributions at any time. In this situation, donors are asked to notify the Notre Dame in Uganda Sponsorship Program Office as soon as possible so that a new benefactor can be found.

How often should I plan to make payments?
Sponsorship payments, either by check or credit card, can be made annually, semiannually, quarterly or monthly. Semiannual or annual payments reduce processing costs, so these are appreciated. Each sponsor receives a pledge coupon book. Matching gifts from employers are also welcome!

Will my student write to me?
Within the first few months, sponsors receive a letter of introduction, with additional correspondence from the student for Christmas and Easter. Postal irregularities may cause delays, but efforts will be made to maintain good communication.

May I write to my student?
Sponsors are encouraged to write to their students. All letters are sent through the Uganda Sponsorship Coordinator.
